  • Timothy hay is a bunchgrass with a 3 to 5 year productive lifespan.
  • The first of the processes is to grow premium quality timothy hay in fields of the Peace Region in Alberta.
  • In early July/early August, PRT cuts, bales and transports the Timothy hay to the plants in Nampa for further processing.
  • Round baled Timothy hay is taken to PRT's dehydration facility where a single pass rotary drum is used to dry the premium quality Timothy hay and either double compress into large 1 m.t. bales or small square bales for the press plant.
  • Field baled Timothy hay is delivered to the processing plant where moisture testing is conducted. If the Timothy hay is above 12% moisture level, the Timothy hay proceeds through the RF/V dryer to remove this excess moisture. Otherwise the Timothy hay proceeds to the storage facility where it is stored until it's needed for shipping.
  • PRT's press plant double compresses and wraps these square bales of Timothy hay into blocks of twelve bales and then loads them into ocean containers.
  • The ocean containers are then trucked to the rail yards in Edmonton, Alberta.
  • The containers then proceed from Edmonton to Vancouver by rail where they are loaded onto ships destined for export markets.
